more in prog. pictures. much more refined

 detail of shoes
so these are shot from an installation-type work. conceptually this piece is meant to embody the loss (or shift) of innocence from the forefront of our personality as children to its settlement in the base of our skull where it pools up growing little creatures, growing green. the materials include cast bronze, twine, cotton shoe laces, thread, wood, graphite, acrylic and oil paint, cut paper...the list goes on. i'm interested in working with the interaction between sculpture and painting as they relate to one another but also serve separate purposes and recall different sensations of memory. i have still some logistics to work out with the stand (i'll be fabricating one soon i hope_) and the painting is still being developed. more pictures to come i think .
detail of bird form (this is actually two birds which have been sewn together, burnt out of an investment mold and then cast in bronze), it's hard to photograph these so you can see both birds.

Reliquary to Preserve 'Innoscents'

these aren't the most wonderful pictures ever and i'd like to also show the pendant as its being worn. the idea behind this piece was to create a contemporary reliquary, so i made one to preserve innocence. the piece is a wearable meant to be worn as a necklace. when on the body the flower is closed and the outside of the pedals has a traditional cupric nitrate patina (light blues to black). when it's not being worn it is meant to sit in this vessel form, which i made specifically for this piece (its cast iron, with some fabricated elements). the set stone which sits in the bowl serves to cork the center portion of the piece which is a pomander (scented necklace). inside is floral fabric which has been infused with scents from my childhood (a little concoction of lavender, vetiver, and rosemary).

also, this piece and the first broach piece are in display at the art department for several months to represent work being made in the metal smithing department. kind of exciting huh?

remember the 3-d sketches...?

well this is the sketch hashed out in metal. The materials are yellow sheet brass, bronze, meshed metal, resin-cast: hair, photograph, plant bud.
this is a wearable piece intended to be worn as a broach. the bottom portion detaches and another resin cast photograph fits in its place. this image is of my mom and her father, the other photograph is my mom's sister.

SNEAK PEEK!

these are some baby shoes that i took an investment mold off of. they came out pretty darling huh? cast bronze, and a sheer cupric nitrate patina, and some serious buffing and a pinch of mama's innocent feet spirit.
well, there is more to this little narrative, and so soon you will be seeing the piece in its entirety.

in progress of a painting i'm working on

I'm working on this painting for several reasons...the first being that i was itching to be painting after a (not quite a full) semester away from it. also, i've been working on the concept for a series, and this imagery references some of the key elements there in. Most of the images are composites i made in photoshop, although a lot of the source material came from old books, including(!) ...The Yearbook of Science 1976
