finally i am getting these images

this is one of the works that i produced for the Radical Jewelry Makeover when they came to Boone. The purpose of their movement is to recycle old jewelry and give it a contemporary revival. the below work is comprised  of costume jewelry mostly including these materials- plastic, wire, pot metal , stone, plastic...plastic. pot metal. i had fun!

in the middle stages of development yes, but in april i will be installing a show in the Turchin Center in boone alongside my peers in the 2013 BFA show. this is a shot of some of the sketches and various works i have currently in progress. my work for this series is based on the idea of innocence lost, confronting the various elements relative to the subject including self image, the early development of biases, gender dynamics, etc. also, all works will be more 3 dimensional than i have worked before, there will even be a pedestal piece. i'll keep posting as these works develop more.

Recent works- in Prog...

 

This is a painting I've been working on for several months. It's based on the concept of automatism, which is stream of conscienciousness drawing/painting. the work is still in progress, i'm working towards a solid resolve which i believe i will find with distinct imagery. We'll see, I'll post pics when it's finished.

This is a peice again was made utilizing this process of making- automatism, though this work utilizes recognizable imagery referencing themes which have occured in my dreams over the past 6 or so months.

Just finished this...

Childhood, playfulness, innocence- these seem to be prevailing themes in my work, i'm flowing with it...the materials here include cast bronze, brass, vinyl house paint, collage material, poly urethane. this maybe the first metalwork which i can truly feel myself in. so, that's good.

The above piece i call- Good Night Moon. the forms and composition are inspired by a favorite bed time story from my childhood. the materials are- found object (saftey pin) brass, cast bronze, ceramic bead, and the stone is florite

 this piece was a quick put together, just a day lily sead pod and stem that i cast in bronze and fabricated a pin form to.

 this piece i completed about 6 or so months ago, it's inspired by the idea of the reliquary- this piece preserves my innocence- and it has a scent- that reminds me of growing up. the form is inspired by rhododendron flowers from summer to fall. The work is fabricated brass, brass meshing, thread, fabric, blended essential oils, nickel and a set garnet. The stand it sits in, when off the body, is cast iron.

after the show this passed month, i wanted to expand on the same mark making techniques but on an infinitely larger scale. so i am working on this painting, which is 4'x8'. there are certainly a new set of issues at hand with this peice and i am setting it aside for a short time to begin a new painting of a similar size. i'll get some new pictures up of this one in further progress as well as the newest painting in the next week or so.
