Working on First Series

I dont much want to go into detail about this, but I am currently working on a series of works which relate to the fundamental shift from childhood to adulthood: our loss of innocence (and the preservation of whatever is left of it). so this piece documents a specific childhood memory and it's reflection on my contemporary state of mind. The materials are cast bronze, sage, fox fur, and stones with acrylic.

As some of you may know, Alex and I have started up a small darkroom in the garage at the house. It's formally named Roswell Family Photo. Several of us in town have been working in there developing personal film as well as recently starting up a collective project. Our theme for this months photographs will be 'Grills' AND for those of you reading this in the Boone area- you are welcome to contact me if you are interested in joining in on the collaborative works! Above are a few prints I did the other night. The first is from a series of negatives my mother gave me that are of our older distant relatives, and the bottom two are of a photogram I did. Still Digital Format-

this time, the prompt was 'the cyclical nature of things'. i chose to try and depict the cyclical nature of dreams. our minds are constantly absorbing concepts and imagery and words and sounds and the list goes on forever. in our dreams, often daily content cycles in and throughout the wild workings of our mind. it's when we wake up that we put meaning to the disparate imagery possibly working through problems to find solutions. this is the frame work for this image.

Digital Imaging! that's right yall

So the prompt was to 'destroy the icon'.  i had to take an iconic image, recognizable by many, and use it in such a way that breaks its original form and composition enough for it to be now considered my image by law. i chose the tryptic of andy warhol in drag, chopped it up and emulated loosely a pop art aesthetic in this series of four, which my professor described as, "quite a healthy set of images". yay!

3-d Sketching...

as an exercise in my metals class, we took common household materials and used them as a means to sketch out possible metal-made jewelry compositions. we had 20 or so minutes for each one, and we had to create a series. in 60 minutes i ended up with a 4 part series inspired by contrasting materials: organic and industrial, soft and sharp, etc. the series consists of a pair of earings, a braclet, and two broches. i'm interested to see how i can translate these to metal? we shall see.
